Gene Therapy Hearing Loss Reversal in Mice
Published 2023-08-13
Researchers from King's College in London, UK, recently published their research regarding hearing loss gene therapy in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Mice with the mutation Spns2 had exerienced severe hearing loss. Gene reactivation was performed with a gene activating enzyme which restored hearing in the low and middle frequencies. The findings appear to be the first to document successful gene therapy in a hearing related genetic defect.
