Placenta Cell Generation Discovery

Published 2020-09-22

A research collaboration between Monash University and Duke-NOS has discovered a process by which placenta cells could be generated from adult cells. Utilizing induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) technology,  the researchers discovered a process to generate 'induced Trophoblast Stem Cells' which could be converted to placenta cells. Prior to the discovery, iPSC technology could not yield placenta cells. The findings are published in the journal Nature.
