Tendon Stem Cell Discovery Could Lead to New Treatments
Published 2020-01-04
Researchers from the Carnegie Institution for Science, led by embryologist Dr. Chen-Ming Fan identified a new population of tendon Stem Cells (Tppp3+Pdgfra+) in a recent article published in Nature Cell Biology. This population of Stem Cells are stimulated by Platelet Derived Growth Factor-A (PDGF-A). Previously, Tendon Stem and Progenitor Cells were phenotypically difficult to identify. This new discovery may make it more likely to stimulate Tendon Stem Cells in-vivo as a therapeutic intervention for tendon pathology.
