Hematopoietic Stem Cell Self Renewal Discovery

Published 2024-06-23

Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles recently published a study in the journal Nature regarding their discovery of a novel protein which appears to play a central role in the self-renewal process of Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSC). According to the study, a unique protein, called MYCT1 appears to be responsible for the maintenance of HSC self renewal. This discovery could have a significant impact on the ability to culture HSCs and generate ideal doses required for HSC transplantation, which is currently lacking.
