ASRM REGENERATIVE MEDICINE CLINIC ACCREDITATION
The American Society of Regenerative Medicine (ASRM) Clinic Accreditation in Regenerative Medicine Standards program was developed to establish a recognized global benchmark for quality, safety, competence, and procedural excellence in regenerative medicine clinical practice. This accreditation program is designed for medical clinics committed to delivering regenerative medicine services according to rigorous professional standards and best practices. It extends the ASRM mission of education, standards development, and clinical excellence directly into the clinical setting.
ASRM Clinic Accreditation is intended to distinguish clinics that demonstrate a high level of readiness and operational quality across physician competence, staff training, laboratory practices, patient management systems, and procedural oversight. Accreditation is conducted through a structured review process led by a designated team of ABRM Diplomates, including compliance officers who evaluate the clinic against defined accreditation criteria focused on competence, safety, efficacy, and optimal patient outcomes.
Purpose of the Accreditation Program
• Demonstrate adherence to recognized standards in regenerative medicine practice• Strengthen physician, staff, and laboratory competence
• Improve patient safety and quality assurance systems
• Standardize clinical and procedural operations
• Promote responsible, ethical, and outcomes-focused regenerative medicine care
• Build credibility with patients, professional partners, and stakeholders
Core Accreditation Standards
1. Clinical Competence Standards
• Physician competence – didactic competence and procedural competence
• Staff competence – didactic competence, patient management competence, infection control competence, and emergency procedures competence
• Outcome data tracking
2. Laboratory Competence Standards
• Laboratory device safety – device maintenance and device operation
• Biologics processing – Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), adipose tissue processing, bone marrow processing, and other biologics processing
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Patient consultations
• Patient procedures
• Post-procedure management
• Adverse event management
Eligibility and Accreditation Requirements
1. Physician Requirements
Physicians must be in the process of or have successfully completed the American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM) Board Certification process. This ensures that the physician leadership of the clinic has met recognized standards in regenerative medicine education and professional competency.
2. Staff Requirements
Nurses and technicians must either be in the process of completing, or have successfully completed, the Regenerative Medicine Competency Certification (RMCC) course through ABRM.
Laboratory Personnel Requirements
Laboratory staff must have laboratory technician-level training or equivalent background, along with formal training in biologics processing.
Accreditation Process
1. Virtual Clinic Site Visit
The clinic site visit is conducted virtually by the ASRM Clinic Accreditation team in coordination with clinic personnel at a predetermined time. During the evaluation, the ASRM team uses detailed checklists to review each required accreditation element.
2. Scoring and Assessment
Each evaluation item is graded on a 0–5 scale, and clinics must achieve a minimum passing grade of 4/5 in each category. Following the review, the clinic will receive a final assessment summary, including any areas requiring improvement in order to fully meet ASRM standards.
3. Final Determination
The final accreditation determination is communicated to the clinic director. Clinics that achieve a passing assessment are granted formal accreditation status.
Accreditation Term
The initial accreditation term is three years. Accreditation may then be renewed in additional three-year cycles, allowing clinics to maintain recognized status through continued compliance with ASRM standards.
Why ASRM Clinic Accreditation Matters
In a rapidly expanding global regenerative medicine landscape, clinic accreditation provides an important framework for identifying programs that are committed to quality, safety, and professional accountability. ASRM Clinic Accreditation helps establish confidence that a clinic has invested in appropriate physician training, staff competency, laboratory practices, and operational systems needed to support responsible regenerative medicine practice.
For clinics, accreditation represents a structured commitment to excellence, continuous improvement, and patient-centered standards in one of the most important emerging areas of modern medicine.
