Stem Cell Organoids Capable of Secreting Enamel Producing Proteins

Published 2023-08-29

Researchers at the University of Washington School of Medicine have been successful in creating organoids from Stem Cells with the capability of secreting the proteins required to form dental enamel. The research published in the journal Developmental Cell provided evidence that ameloblasts which secrete enamel forming proteins (ameloblastin, amelogenin and enamelin) could be generated in the laboratory. Enamel is critical in protecting teeth against decay. Enalem cannot be replaced once teeth are fully formed.
