Synovial Stem Cells Retain Chondrogenic Potential Even in Advanced Joint Disease

Published 2023-07-05

According to a recent study from the University of Bern, published in Scientific Reports, synovial stem cells found in advanced knee osteoarthrtis retain the ability of cartilate regeneration. Synovial stem cells from younger patients with Femoro-Acetabular Impingement (FAI) Syndrome were compared to those from elderly patients suffering from advanced knee Osteoarthritis (OA). Under in-vitro conditions, synovial stem cells from both patient populations showed similar potential to differentiate into cartilate tissue.
